You are an eligible to vote if:
- You're an Indian citizen
- You're 18 years of age or older as on 1st January, 2014
- You're not disqualified by the Election Commission

It is mandatory for your name to be in the Voter List/Electoral rolls for voting.

Q. Does the possession of a voter ID card entitle me to vote?

No. Mere possession of voter ID card DOES NOT entitle you to vote.
Q. Is a voter ID card essential for voting?
A.
No. This is a very commonly held myth! Only 2 things are mandatory for voting:
- Your name should be there in the list of registered voters i.e. in electoral roll or voter list of your polling booth
- You should carry an approved identity proof document.
